What We Do

Bringing the Filipino community together at Macquarie University.

We aim to provide fun-filled and engaging events for both Filipino and non-Filipino students to enjoy and share an appreciation for the Philippines.

We do this through cultural promotion in social gatherings, fundraisers and partnerships, and through providing member benefits, leadership opportunities and an alumni network.

Cultural Promotion

As a cultural group, we promote the beautiful culture of the Philippines. This is either done through sharing meals together, listening to music, playing traditional games and, through Wikang Wednesdays, learning the language and traditional script as seen through our media page.

Social Gatherings

As a social group, we’ve always been a place for people to make new connections. We are so grateful for the many friendly faces who have connected with us in many ways. To keep each other in the loop, we’ve hosted welcome parties, outings, trivia nights, karaoke nights and many more!

Member Benefits

As a support network, we provide members with free and discounted entry to society events, discounts on official society merchandise and access to exclusive promotions and special discounts provided by our sponsors, partners and affiliated brands.

COVID-19 Response

As an active group, we’ve managed to move online to keep each other in the loop during COVID-19. In 2020, Maligayang Mondays and the FSS Got Talent were very successful as online activities. This was all made possible thanks to the awesome members who’ve joined the official FSS MQU Discord Server.

Fundraising

As a family, we recognise the social responsibilities we have. Thus, we commit ourselves to the development of social issues that affect our fellow Filipinos. Most recently, we collaborated with the Filipino Student Society of USYD to raise funds for those impacted by Typhoon Ulysses in 2020.

Partnerships

The society has strong affiliations with the Filipino Student Council of NSW. Among its members are Filipino student societies of other universities whom FSS MQU share the same mission with. These bonds have resulted in special collaborations through events such as Palarong Pinoy 2019 and Filo Got Talent 2019.

Leadership Opportunities

As a student group, we recognise the importance of skill-building and preparation for the future. The society is run by a hard-working executive committee and general officers who are passionate about the MQU Filipino community, introducing Filipino culture, making new friends, creating impact through leadership and creating events.

Long-lasting Connections

As a growing society, we acknowledge all the former members who have graduated and moved onto the next stage of their careers. We stay in touch with the FSS MQU alumni community and take them onto our advisory board to know the best for our society.
